The concept of death is a topic that every young child must face as they grow. From the very beginning of life, death stands in opposition to survival, implicitly threatening various situations that jeopardize life. However, in East Asia, when death occurs, it becomes a taboo subject (Wang, Hsin-Yi p121). Adults often avoid letting children face the truth of death directly and instead romanticize it. In this work, I use a child's perspective to depict memories of death. This stems from my own recollections.
My grandfather's father, in his old age, would sit on an old blue sofa for years. Once, I brought him a dandelion, and he crushed it immediately. I squatted down to gather the pieces and looked up to see a corner of his blue sofa, which had worn out and become frayed. Not long after, he passed away, but my family said there should be no crying because it would make him unhappy if he heard it.
